SINGLE TOOTH DENTAL IMPLANTS
WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?
A natural tooth consists of a tooth root, which firmly sits in the jawbone, and a tooth crown, which is the visible upper part of the tooth.
A dental implant is a small titanium screw which is placed in your jaw to act as a fixed and permanent root. During the healing process this screw integrates with the surrounding bone (through a process known as osseointegration). The implant acts as a base for fixing single crowns, multiple tooth bridges, or can be used as an anchor for full jaw teeth replacements.

STEP 1
An initial consultation with Dr Adam Patel will allow you to discuss your treatment wishes, explore your treatment options and ask about any questions related to having dental implants. Dr Adam will carry out an initial clinical assessment and present all available options to meet your goals. You will be provided with a clear, concise step-by-step presentation to help you make a decision.STEP 2
STEP 2
The next step involves taking a 3D CT scan of your jaw to measure your bone and assess important anatomy. You will be followed up with a comprehensive written treatment plan if you are a suitable candidate for implant treatment.STEP 3
STEP 3
Oral measurements, scans and photos are taken to develop state-of-the-art precision computer guides and a decisive plan for your final implant teeth. We develop an accurate ‘digital plan’ of the final outcome prior to embarking on surgery. We go through the consent
process to ensure you fully understand your treatment plan and costings. Any further questions that you have will be answered and your surgery date will be set. You can choose to have surgery under local anaesthetic or sedation with an anaesthetist.STEP 4
STEP 4
On the day of your surgery, you will be welcomed by Dr Adam’s team and prepared for your procedure. If you are having sedation the anaesthetist will administer this and take you into a relaxed sleepy state before treatment begins. If you are having treatment under local anaesthetic you can close your eyes and relax to calming music. Dr Adam will have already completed a simulated computer guided surgery on your jaws prior to commencement to ensure your surgery is completed with utmost precision. Once the surgery is complete you will be provided with full after care instructions before being discharged. Depending on the type of surgery you will return to a normal routine within a few days.STEP 5
STEP 5
Your implants are left to heal for approximately 8-12 weeks depending on bone quality at the time of placement. After this, your final bespoke teeth will be made and fittedREPLACE A SINGLE TOOTH WITH A DENTAL IMPLANT
ADVANTAGES OF IMPLANTS
- Implants appear and function like natural teeth – An implant is the gold standard replacement option for teeth. After completion of treatment your implant tooth/teeth will be just as strong and indistinguishable from your natural teeth
- Eliminate need for a denture – Implants can eliminate your need for a full or partial denture, ensure tooth stability and encourage better gum health with adjacent teeth.
- Preserve your jawbone and facial structure – Our natural teeth help jawbone to remain strong and healthy. The forces we generate as we chew transmit through the tooth roots to the bone, which stimulates the maintenance of bone density and shape. Where a tooth or teeth are missing, the bone around it shrinks and recedes after extraction. This process continues for as long as there are no teeth present in that part of the jaw. With shrinking bone, the shape of your face changes over time and this is demonstrated by wrinkling on the face and an ageing appearance. Implants help maintain jawbone and preserve your facial structure helping maintain a more youthful facial appearance.
- Prevent changes in your bite – When you lose teeth adjacent teeth can move and alter your bite making chewing very difficult. If the gap is left long term it is likely that the bite will alter preventing you from being able to replace the missing tooth or teeth at a later date.
If you are missing several teeth in one part of your jaw we can strategically place two to three implants and replace all of the teeth in that part of the jaw with a bridge.
